Let’s talk about Inner beauty

Remember when you were little and your mother told you that it’s not what’s on the outside that matters, but what is on the inside?

Did you just roll your eyes? I’m betting you were told this at some point in your life.

I’m pretty sure young girls today are told this too and the cynical among them, no doubt shrug this off and continues their daily scroll through social media to see what Beyoncé wore in her latest video or if Jennifer is really back with Brad.

The same way we would flick through a magazine wondering how we get legs like Cindy Crawford.

We are, of course, using different platforms now, yet still consume the same unhealthy content. Image is everything, fame is easier to obtain and everyone has an opinion.

So we repeat to ourselves, that it’s what’s inside that matters. We know deep down we are more than our weight, so what if we don’t have a thigh gap. We embrace self-love but don’t believe in ourselves. A small voice inside us cries,

“It’s what’s inside that matters”

Ever think that saying was invented to be kind? I’m sure many of us grew up telling ourselves that being beautiful inside must mean we are not much of a looker. Perhaps you just thought it meant you had to be kinder? Surely a lovely personality is the real inner beauty?

Well, yes, but also, no. Inner beauty is so much more. The clue is in the name.

Think, Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai, both these young women refuse to be silenced and anyone who hates on them is quickly forgotten. They have been told to shut up, mocked and threatened, yet they continue their fight. Never yielding.

Similarly, Emma Watson is a proud advocate for women. Her voice is being heard and more than this, people listen to her.

Guess what? It’s not because they are famous. It’s their absolute confidence in what they are doing that makes them shine and draws people to them.

What if I told you that these young women were defining beauty, real inner beauty?

For genuine beauty is exactly that, your mother was right. What’s inside is what matters most.

Greta and Emma are the voices of a whole new generation, they are confident in the face of adversity but they have something else.

They have values, in this celeb orientated world, holding fast to something of substance is difficult.

Greta, Emma and Malala lead the way, showing that you can speak out when so many are against you. You can dare to be different and go against the grain.

True beauty is standing up for what you believe in. It’s not compromising on your morals for a job, a partner or friendship group. It’s being true to yourself.

It’s not wearing the latest designer dress, it’s not showing off or being the loudest voice in the room. It certainly has nothing to do with the most likes on your recent selfie.

Yes, those things are great and they can make us feel good, but that feeling is fleeting.

Ladies, you are beautiful inside and out, but your true beauty comes from within. Be yourself, show up as your gorgeous, powerful self and lead the way.

By allowing your unique inner beauty to shine through, you will radiate confidence outside too.
